Accessibility Statement

Last updated: April 2026

Our commitment

Long Island Cesspool Co. is committed to making our website and services accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. Cesspool and septic service is a basic household utility. Nobody should have trouble reaching us to schedule a pumping, request a quote, or ask a question because of how our website is built.

We target WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance as our accessibility baseline.

What we've built for

Keyboard navigation: Every interactive element (links, buttons, forms) can be reached and operated without a mouse. Tab order follows visual flow.

Screen reader support: We use semantic HTML, ARIA labels where needed, and alt text on meaningful images. Tested against VoiceOver (Mac/iOS), NVDA (Windows), and TalkBack (Android).

Color contrast: Body text and UI elements meet or exceed 4.5:1 contrast against background. Large text and non-text elements meet 3:1.

Resizable text: Text can be zoomed to 200% without breaking layout or requiring horizontal scroll on standard screens.

Captions and transcripts: Video content (when posted) includes captions. Audio-only content includes transcripts.

Forms: Every form field has a visible label. Errors are described in text, not by color alone. Required fields are clearly marked.

No auto-play: We don't auto-play audio or video. Any motion respects the `prefers-reduced-motion` browser setting.

Focus indicators: Keyboard focus is always visible. No `outline: none` without a replacement focus state.

Known gaps

We're small and we update the site frequently. Things sometimes slip. Known issues we're aware of:

  • Some older resource articles may have images without fully descriptive alt text. We're working through the archive.
  • PDF documents (permit guides, SCSIP forms we host) may not be fully tagged. If you need a document in an accessible format, email us and we'll send a tagged version or a plain-text alternative.
  • Embedded third-party widgets (financing calculators, map embeds) follow their vendor's accessibility level, not ours. If a vendor widget blocks you, email us and we'll provide the information by phone or email.

Non-website accessibility

Phone: Dispatch answers live during business hours. If you use a relay service (711), we accept relay calls like any other call.

Office visit: Our Hauppauge shop is at ground level with one step at the front entrance. Ramp access available with 24-hour notice. Most customer communication happens by phone, email, or at the jobsite, not at the shop.

On-site work: Our technicians will communicate in writing (text, email, notes) if spoken communication isn't the best option for you. Just let dispatch know when scheduling.

Written materials: Estimates, contracts, and permit paperwork are available in large-print PDF, plain-text email, or read aloud by your assigned coordinator on request.

Report an issue

If something on this site doesn't work for you, we want to hear about it. Direct line to Tom:

Email: tom@longislandcesspools.com (subject line: "Accessibility") Phone: 631-TBD, ask for Tom Mail: Long Island Cesspool Co., 1450 Veterans Memorial Hwy, Hauppauge, NY 11788

When you report an issue, tell us:

  • What page or feature
  • What device, browser, or assistive tech you're using
  • What happened and what you expected

We aim to acknowledge within 2 business days and fix or provide a workaround within 10 business days for most issues.

Ongoing work

Accessibility is a moving target. Every site update includes accessibility review before launch. We run automated scans (axe, Lighthouse) on major changes and manual keyboard/screen-reader spot checks. We also fix issues reactively as they're reported.

This statement will be updated as the site evolves.

Regulatory

This site aims to comply with:

  • Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title III for public accommodations
  • New York State Human Rights Law
  • WCAG 2.1 Level AA (W3C)

If you believe our site is not meeting its obligations, contact us directly before filing a complaint. We'd rather fix it than fight about it.
